3 Abilene, TX Abilene, TX Full-time Full-time $3,331 - $4,224 a month $3,331 - $4,224 a month Network Specialist I The Region 2/9 ITCSO Network Specialist I position is selected by and accountable to the HHSC IT Customer Support Operations Manager over Region 2/9.
This position provides hands-on and remote deskside support services to customers and support staff for issues or problems.
This position is located at the 4601 South 1st, Abilene, Texas Health and Human Services Office.
The position also provides support for the surrounding towns where we have HHSC offices.
The position performs moves, adds, and changes to equipment and software.
The Network Specialist I performs entry-level network tasks.
Work involves assisting in development, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of local area networks and wide area networks.
This position works under close supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule including possible after-hours and weekend support as required to complete assignments and support customers.
Afterhours and weekends work includes some holidays when work duties dictate afterhours support such as network equipment upgrades, computer/site moves, natural disasters, and other IT related activities that can only be performed when end users are out.
Overtime work is sometimes required.
Requires travel approximately 30% of the time normally within regional boundaries during regular work hours.
Occasional out-of-town travel with overnight lodging is required.
Completes procedures for backup, recovery, and archival of files stored on the network.
Communicates with vendors, users, management, and network programming staff.
Serves as contact for remote network locations to obtain clarification of problems and to identify solutions or corrective actions.
Provides user support and training in the use of available hardware, software, and utilities.
Assists in maintaining the local area network and wide area network, cable and hub installations, and inventories.
Assists in maintaining the network's physical and logical structures and in installing and testing hardware and software.
Assists in performance tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance the performance of the network resources and in maintaining network support software.
Assists/conducts product evaluations of upgraded or new hardware and software and identifies strengths, weaknesses, and potential benefits to the agency.
Assists in maintaining the operating system and security software utilized on the network, including the addition of new users to the network and establishment of rights and privileges.
Performs related work as assigned.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Current Valid Texas Driver's License.
Initial Selection Criteria:
Graduation from high school or GED Experience supporting Microsoft Windows 10 and above preferred but not required Experience supporting Microsoft Office 365 preferred but not required High volume customer service experience preferred but not required Additional Information:

Must have reliable transportation with the appropriate insurance coverage and a valid Texas driver's license.
Must be capable of transporting computer/network equipment to complete work requests.
Occasional overtime and weekend work is sometimes required.
Selected applicant must be able to move 30 pounds of computer equipment on a daily basis.
