15 an hour 2 days ago 2 days ago 2 days ago GENERAL DESCRIPTION Under the direction of the Division Manager - Communications to supervise, oversee, and participate in a variety of complex and difficult telecommunicator duties including receiving and dispatching calls for law enforcement, fire, ambulance, and other emergency assistance activities.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED This position exercises direct supervision over the Communications staff.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES Provide exceptional leadership to the Telecommunicator.
Supervise and review the work of staff members responsible for performing duties involved in the receipt and dispatch of calls for law enforcement, fire, ambulance, and other emergency assistance.
Train communications staff in appropriate policies and procedures; direct and monitor the workflow and evaluate employee performance.
Receive emergency service calls from the public requesting law enforcement, fire, ambulance and/or other emergency service; determine nature and location of emergency, determine priority and dispatch emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures using a computer aided dispatch system.
Recommend and assist with the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for providing dispatch services; implement policies and procedures.
Maintain contact with all assigned units; maintain status and location of law enforcement and fire field units; maintain daily log of all field calls and dispatched units.
Oversee the input and retrieval of a variety of public safety information using a computer terminal; enter, update and retrieve information from teletype networks relating to wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, stolen vehicles, and other information.
Manage the use of the telecommunications systems to coordinate emergency calls, relay information, and assistance requests involving other law enforcement agencies.
Prepare required reports on communications operations and activities.
Dispatch police and fire units to emergencies within assigned districts Maintain radio log, recording and status control devices.
Receive and extract information of an emergency nature, including caller information, nature of emergency, location and phone number.
Receive and process complaints, assistance, and information requests from the public by either referring the party to the appropriate division or department or supplying the information.
Answer telephone requests from the public for information concerning City policies, procedures, and activities.
Input and retrieve a variety of public safety information using a computer terminal Perform entry, update, retrieval and documentation from various files available via the NLETS/TLETS systems.
Use telecommunications systems to coordinate emergency calls and relay information and assistance requests involving other law enforcement agencies.
Operate various types of office equipment including computer terminal/printer, 24 hour communications recording system, and telecommunications device for the deaf (TDD).
OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES Work schedules may include periods of overtime as necessary and possibly unscheduled overtime to meet minimum staffing requirements.
Perform other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Operate Computer Aided Dispatch and 9-1-1 systems and radio transmitting equipment.
Ability to:

Select, supervise, train, and evaluate communications staff.
Perform a full range of public safety dispatching duties including receiving and processing emergency calls.
Interpret and explain unit policies and procedures and interpret and apply laws, codes, policies and procedures related to assignment.
Maintain familiarity with City districts and boundaries, streets, landmarks, and police jurisdictions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Make independent decisions involving sensitive situations and maintain the confidentiality of information.
Operate a computer terminal, teletype, and other general office equipment including a PC equipped with Microsoft Office and Google Suite, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) software, Records Management System (RMS) software, computer-based multi-line phone system with Vesta Mapping, Pictometry programs, Text-to-9-1-1 and Eventide voice recorder system.
Work various shifts as assigned; understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Telecommunicator Supervisor I Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in receiving and processing public service calls in a law enforcement agency.
An active license or appointment, two (2) years of service under Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), all required courses, and Intermediate Certification is required.
Must be available for console and classroom training as needed for the division, and attend required courses associated with training Education/Training:
A high school diploma or GED is required.
License or Certificate:
A valid Texas Driver's License is required.
Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Certification is required.
TCIC/NCIC Full Access Operator, TLETS Basic Operator certification, and CJIS Security Awareness Training is required.
Active TCOLE Telecommunicator License is required.
Intermediate, Advanced, or Master Telecommunicator Operator certifications are required.
TCOLE Basic Instructor certification is preferred.
Experience:
Telecommunicator Supervisor II Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in receiving and processing public service calls in a law enforcement agency.
An active license or appointment, four (4) years of service under Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), all required courses, and Advanced Certification is required.
Must be available for console and classroom training as needed for the division, and attend required courses associated with training Telecommunicator Supervisor III Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in receiving and processing public service calls in a law enforcement agency.
An active license or appointment, eight (8) years of service under Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), all required courses, and Master Certification is required.
Must be available for console and classroom training as needed for the division, and attend required courses associated with training Special Requirements:
Ability to work periods of scheduled and unscheduled overtime to meet minimum staffing requirements.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
US citizenship is required.
No felony or Class A misdemeanor convictions.
No Class B misdemeanor convictions in last 10 years.
No pending Class B misdemeanor or higher charges.
Sustained posture and intense attentiveness for prolonged periods of time.
